Most active and retired wrestlers have been interviewed for podcasts at some point in their careers in recent years. I’m Philip, your Smarky Irishman, and I hope to see you all very soon. The podcast industry has become a huge part of wrestling today. So, whether there’s 10 readers, or 10,000 readers by the time I really get up and running with this site, I really do hope you enjoy the cynical ramblings, the pointing and laughing at booking decisions, and the overall love for professional wrestling possessed by a 20-year old Irish student, who really doesn’t have anything better to be doing with his time. I honestly love wrestling even more now as a result, and in a sense, I’m thankful for the fact that I ended up falling out of love with it. Then in late 2015/early 2016, mainly because of YouTube channels such as Whatculture and Wrestling With Wregret, I started seeing wrestling in a whole new light granted, probably in a cynical point of view, but I still became a fan in the new sense – on top of what WWE was producing at the time, I was introduced to all these other companies – Ring of Honor, New Japan Pro Wrestling, Over The Top Wrestling, just to name a few – and on top of that, new wrestlers to watch, and enjoy – from the serious groups such as Bullet Club and British Strong Style, to outlandish and hilarious characters such as the Session Moth Martina and Martin Kirby. Much to my dismay, I ended up missing great storytelling, such as the rise and destruction of the Shield, Daniel Bryan and the YES! movement, and the absolute dumpster fire that was the 2015 Royal Rumble match (which I’ll definitely get into at some stage!) Around 2012, I fell out of love with wrestling, mainly due to the fact that it just wasn’t cool to like it anymore. When I was a child, I loved wrestling (much to the dismay of my parents.) Growing up in the tail-end of the Ruthless Aggression era (around 2006 is when I started watching it full-time, although it was always in my life in the years prior), I became dumbfounded by the athletic feats such people were able to pull off – from characters such as the Undertaker (whom I first remember in the American Badass gimmick – DON’T JUDGE ME DAMMIT), to guys like Batista, John Cena, Triple H, Rey Mysterio, the list goes on. I’ve grown up a lot since then, and since my love for the sport (entertainment) of professional wrestling has been re-kindled, I feel that I will be able to give comprehensive and insightful predictions, reviews and anything else that comes to mind when it comes to the weird and wonderful world of wrestling! Granted, while I would always start something regarding writing, I would never finish it be it stupid Star Wars parodies starring myself and my friends (I was 8, OK?) to XBOX game reviews, to which I reviewed one game (BADLY), and to this day have not posted on since then. Well, two things I’ve loved doing since I was a kid was writing, and professional wrestling. So, why am I doing this? *slaps hea–* yeah, I’m not doing that. ![]() There’s definitely not thousands upon thousands of them already on the Internet!” And to that I say… you’re probably right. I know what you’re probably thinking: “Oh goody, another annoying smart mark trying to ruin pro wrestling. Hello, dear reader! And welcome to the Smarky Irishman!
